Town Council Functions
Most local Council services are provided by the District or County Councils. The Town Council’s role is more advisory and its main purpose is local community leadership. Although not directly responsible for many services, the Town Council can, therefore, have influence over a wide range of issues. It is frequently consulted on highways, use of public areas, environmental improvements and the provision or alteration of local facilities, as well as every planning application.
The functions which are carried out by the Town Council are as follows:
Advice
The Town Council office provides a wide range of advice and often helps
people find the right organisation to deal with their problems or queries.
The Manor House
Rooms in the Manor House with the exception of the Council Offices
and the District Council cash office; are available
for rent either on a long-term arrangement or daily/hourly by arrangement.
(Charges and availability can be checked at the Town Council Offices.)

Waterfowl
Dawlish is known throughout the world as the home of the black swan and these
birds have been resident in the town since the 19th century. The Town Council is the owner of the swans and other ornamental
waterfowl to be found on the brook that dissects the Lawn and they directly employ a Warden for their care.
Advocacy
On behalf of the community and, if appropriate, individuals, the Council seeks to influence other agencies in the use of
their powers and resources. It also acts to improve co-ordination between agencies.
Grants
Dawlish Town Council accepts grant applications throughout the year. There are two grant schemes in place:
