Dawlish Town Council came into being in 1974, was awarded Quality Council status
in 2004 and gained reaccreditation in 2008. There are three wards:
North East covering an area from the eastern side of the Town to Cockwood
Central covering the area of the Town
Centre
South West covering an area from the western side of the Town, including Holcombe, to the boundary with Teignmouth
There are sixteen Councillors who stand for re-election every four years. The next Ordinary Elections are due in 2011. The Town has a Mayor and Deputy Mayor elected from the membership of the Town Council. Dawlish is represented at District Council level by five Councillors. Dawlish is represented at Devon County Council by one elected Member.

Liberal Democrat - Cllr. Collins was elected to the Town Council in May 2007. Derek’s aim is to serve the residents and tenants of Dawlish to the best of his ability and to look after the interests of the beautiful town of Dawlish at all times. Derek worked tirelessly for and on behalf of the tenants of Teignbridge during and up to the change-over from District Council ownership to Teign Housing and maintains a keen interest in all aspects of housing matters in Teignbridge.
Mrs Janet Garland Cranworthy, 10 Luscombe Terrace, Dawlish
Liberal Democrat - Married for 25 years with one adult daughter. Worked a trained nurse for 30 years in various disciplines until I became disabled. Gradutated from Open University in 2002. Elected to serve on Dawlish Town Council in 2007 I am on the Planning Committee & Civic Amenities Committee. I joined the Town Council in a bid to serve my local community and to represent members of my ward. My leisure interests are very varied they include sewing, music and writing.

Conservative - Graham has been a Town Councillor for many years and has previously served as Mayor of Dawlish. Following re-election in May 2007, Graham was elected to serve as the Chairman of the Planning Committee. Graham is a well-known local business man. He has strong links with Dawlish Carnival and is keen to forge links between the Town Council and local organisations.

Conservative - Geoff has served as a Town Councillor for over three years he was previously the Chairman of the Civic Amenities Committee and is Deputy Mayor for 2008-09. He is a true local, being Dawlish born and bred, as was his father and grandfather. Geoff is married with three daughters and a grandson, all of whom live in Dawlish. He served in the local Fire Brigade for over ten years and, following that, continued to serve the community for a further fourteen years as a Special Constable. Geoff has served on many groups in Dawlish including the Chamber of Trade, Regeneration Group, Conservations Trust and was a trustee of the Community Trust. Geoff was a keen member of the group which refurbished the waterwheel in Brunswick Place. “I believe Dawlish is a lovely and unique place and my aim will be to ensure that it is kept that way.”

Conservative - Pauline is a Devonian and has lived in Cofton since 1969 where, with her husband, she brought up two sons. The eldest works in the aeronautical industry and the younger is an assistant head teacher. Pauline is now retired after a lifetime in administration covering banking, engineering, the tourist industry and insurance. Over the years she has been involved with Cockwood Primary School, Dawlish Community College, the Dawlish Scout Group and Devon Judo. Laterly she has been Secretary of the Cockwood Village Green Committee and helped with the re-siting of the village hall. At present Pauline is President of Cofton Women’s Institute. I am keen to promote additional/further education in line with modern day criteria. Pauline has always taken an interest in local affairs and will continue to help maintain the environment of Dawlish for future generations.

Liberal Democrat - Andrew is a committed Christian and attends the Dawlish Christian Fellowship, playing the cello in the church music group.
Now retired, Andrew was trained in General and Psychiatric Nursing RN (SRN) RMN, latterly serving as a Community Psychiatric Nurse managing elderly mental health services in the Seaton Locality.
He has served as a South Somerset District Councillor and Tatworth and Forton Parish Councillor for the past 26 years, specialising in sustainable development projects. He conceived the idea of building the coast to coast cycleway (The Stop Line Way - part of the proposed Round Devon Route) an ‘access for all’ route linking Seaton in East Devon with Bridgwater Bay to be completed by 2010.
Other achievements have included the setting up of the Salisbury to Exeter Lineside Consortium of Authorities (SELCA - a rail partnership) and a Tatworth Transition Community. He is Chairman of the South West Home and Leisure Safety Council and member of the Nation Home Safety Committee.
Andrew would like to learn from and give what he can offer to Dawlish TC and the community.

Liberal Democrat - Jackie Bush was born and brought up in Dawlish and has worked the field of learning disabilities for over forty years. She is currently a Care Co-ordinator for Family Breaks Devon Action for Children. Jackie serves as a Governor at Dawlish Community College. She takes a keen interest in care issues for all ages and is a firm believer in fair access to care for all the people of Dawlish. Jackie has personal experience of the social and economic extremes that are with us in Dawlish.

Conservative - Carol is retired having worked for Rank Leisure for 22 years. She became a Town Councillor in July 2008, she is the main carer for her aged parents and when not looking after them plays golf, enjoys walking and swimming and is a disabled riding helper. "I joined the Town Council to help people of Dawlish make our town a place to be proud of".

Conservative - Helen was elected to the Town Council in May 2007. She is married with two step-daughters, a daughter at the Community College and a grandson. Helen has lived in Dawlish since 1992 and runs a small business in the town centre which brings her into contact with local residents and tourists. Helen has always been keen to participate in community life and was a Special Constable for 15 years. She is a member of the Chamber of Trade and served on the committee for a number of years. She was also an inaugural member of the Dawlish Waterwheel Group that restored the waterwheel in Brunswick Place. Helen says “I have always felt that it is important to put something back into the community in which I live and work. Dawlish is a very special place that needs protecting and enhancing and I am proud to be able to play my part in that.”
