Dawlish Celebrates the Coronation - Bake off Competition
1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes for each category
Dawlish Town Council would like to invite you to take part in our Coronation Bake-Off. There will be a category for three different age groups – one for 14 years and over, one for 7-13 years, and one for under 7 years old. It is FREE to enter. Judging will take place on Sunday 7th May on the Lawn, Dawlish. Drop off 10am-11am. Prizes awarded. Only one entry per person.
1. Bake a Cake fit for a King (over 14s)
Your cake can be any size or shape but should be made using Mary Berry’s all in one Victoria sponge mixture. The recipe is readily available online at BBC Food or Great British Bake-Off https://tinyurl.com/2syk5pyp. Filling can be raspberry or strawberry jam (shop bought is allowed) and can include homemade buttercream. You can decorate your cake however you like, ie royal icing, fondant icing, buttercream and with any decorations you’d like to use.
Judging Criteria:
1. Taste and bake of cake (in true Paul Hollywood style); 2. Decoration; 3. Appeal of the cake for the royal occasion.
2. Fabulous Fairy Cakes (7-13 years old): Making and decorating four fairy cakes fit for a coronation.
3. Brilliant Biscuits (under 7 years old): Four shop bought Digestive or Rich Tea biscuits decorated for a right royal occasion.
Rules for Coronation Bake-Off Competition Entry:
1. Bring your cake or decorated masterpiece with you on the day of the event, Sunday 7th May between
10am to 11am – along with this entry form – to the marquee.
2. The Mayor of Dawlish and Dawlish WI will judge the entries and results will be announced online and in the press.
3. A prize will be awarded to the winner of each category on Sunday 7th May from 1.45pm, at the bandstand on the Lawn.
4. The judges’ decisions are final.
5. Only one entry per person is allowed.
6. It is hoped to photograph the winners and their bake-off creations after the judging.
